puddingcat: (Knitting)

I have a Plan.

This year, I knitted myself a Captain America costume for a convention. I'm planning on Lady Loki for next year. So far, I'm in the "making prototypes that look like dirty socks after the cats have played with them" stage, and it's disheartening.

So! I Plan to push through this stage. I shall knit a bit every day and figure out just how the hell I'm supposed to make scaled leggings, and horns that support their own weight, and a bleeding staff out of yarn.

I finally decided yesterday that it's time to get a hung project out of my hair by moving from submitting it to self-publishing it already. I need to do this partly because I just don't have the mental energy to find a publisher that publishes this sort of thing that hasn't already passed on it, and partly because I've moved on from classical Japanese and couldn't make additional revisions without a lot of ramp-up that, again, I don't have the energy for.

Fortunately, in its current state, the project documents are in pretty good shape, as I've been maintaining separate .epub and Word files, with formatting appropriate for each. So, game plan:
  • Review and revise as necessary the introduction, notes, and bios.

  • Create a cover that works for both printbook and ebook, or alternate covers.

  • Create front matter.

  • Dive into CreateSpace, find a reasonable template, and pour my Word content into it.

  • ETA: Don't fuss about finding the perfect display font for headings. Good enough is good enough.

  • Proofread ebook and printbook.

  • Decide pricing.

  • Stretch goals: revise my website, pull together marketing plan.

  • Publish.

I think that's doable in a month. Maybe?

*deep breath* Let's get this done.

Okay, guys, it's October 1st where I am... is it October 1st where you are? Then you're free to start posting!

Also, if you're a bit lost, remember that there's a lot (and I do mean a lot) of fantastic (and I also do mean fantastic) prompts here, both evocative images and inspiring sentences, mainly offered by indelicateink and chomiji, who really know how to prompt, omg. Do feel free to add to the pool, too, there's no such a thing as too much inspirational choices.

And, of course, if you want to be prompted or would love to see something from a specific person, the particular prompting post is also available here.

Edited to add that the_rck has generously provided a link to a collection of poetry snippets that you can use as inspiration! You can find the links on the comments (third page) of the general prompts post (see link above).

If you're feeling down or stuck and need some encouragement from your fellow creators, don't hesitate to ask for a virtual hug, or advice, or whatever it is we can provide for you.

Okay, guys, let's get shit done!!

Hi everybody! I found this via my reading list and I love this idea so much.

My goal for October is simple: get my ducks lined up for NaNoWriMo. I'm re-trying the novel I won with in 2015, which it turns out is a hot mess that needs to be burned and re-seeded rather than pruned. That's okay.

The goals in more specific:

1. Worldbuilding
2. Outlining
3. [not specifically creative] get ahead on chores/food prep for freezing/etc. so I have less to fight in November.

Let's go!

 What ho!

I strive to realize my own shortcomings, and I guess my biggest one is that I have too many plans and end up doing nothing at all, because I get overwhelmed and tired just by thinking about the sheer amount of it... So, first, I'd like to set a sensible amount of goals for the month :D

  • start writing. Anything would be a good start, but most specifically I'd like to continue my Star Trek RPs and my Hetalia fic. Any old fandoms drabbles to kick into gear (especially WK  and maybe even Saiyuki) would be an awesome start. (also, on a personal note: I've never written any rating higher than PG-13 and I'd like to give a try at least once?)
  • finish at least 3 of my planned music videos and learn how to do a few new fancy tricks with Sony Vegas Pro
  • make a cosplay list and finish at least one project on it
  • start learning for the upcoming test and revise my CV

Thank you for this community and let's do this! <3

Fandom and stuff: Saiyuki - 58, PG (Untitled)
Format: Ficlet, because I suck at distilling the essence of a story, apparently.
Warnings: None
Notes: Angst, unbeta-ed, set in the Burial period, when they were still trying to fit around each other (they are wildly different, after all). Inspired by a prompt by chomiji even if I sort of twisted it beyond recognition. I'm still grateful, though. It's taken me literally hours to force myself to sit and get to work on this. But hey, victory!

In retrospect, Hakkai should have known. )

accountability ftw! I do not have art to post, but just checking in to report I'm working away on character design. Getting back into the art habit is hard, so thanks again for this challenge. <3

I need to get writing again, even if only 5 people read it.

I have 2 WIPs that have only been posted in the WvS comm, plus my 60-some-thousand beast A Newly Beating Heart that I made the mistake of posting before it was done, and now it languishes in the purgatory of Writers Block Hell, incomplete for way too many years.

I want to make some sort of progress on these three poor babies:

• A chapter
• Finish one of them?
• Figure out what the fuck is my problem with ANBH
• Try not to wallow in my own self-contempt
• All of the above?
