August 4 check-in

1. Posted a translation, third for the week, so met goal. ✅ Got the next poem into rough literal prose. Ditto a side-project poem, heavily decorated with ⁉⁉s.

2. Revised one (knotty) poem based on new-to-me commentary. Not sure I’ve nailed it, honestly, but met goal. ✅ That said, it’s time to change this goal to be more realistic—I dashed it down without due diligence. A reasonable speed for double-checking translations is more like one a day, allowing for scope and time to digest, and there’s forty poems in the collection—way more than a month. And that doesn’t even account for other ancillary pre-production tasks like collecting/preparing the graphics or revising front/back matter. I’m changing this stretch goal to “revise one translation + footnote a day.”

3. 10 minutes of plinky. Did not meet goal.

 Look at me, posting twice in a week! :-D

1. Got all the earring shapes cut out. I have these shapes saved that I print out on paper, then I use double-sided tape to stick them to the silver. Because I'm cheap I play Tetris with trying to get as many out of a piece as possible. And in this case, I was trying to match the mandala pattern.



I LOVE MY SAW. It's a bit fancy-pants, and was $80, but look at the precision of those cuts! I used to hate sawing silver until I got that saw.




2. OMG I WROTE SOMETHING. The chapter I've been stuck on for TEN YEARS is the confrontation with the Big Bad/final battle, and I'm finally starting to figure out how I want to do it. Last night was just a couple of paragraphs, but damn it felt good.

Okay, success. I swam my usual 30-40 min AND managed to draw, even if it was just copying the sketch to the definitive paper, fine tuning the general composition and trying out ideas for the background.


BG:

I actually had to clear the desk because I can sketch like a kid in the worst posture ever leaning the block on the table (and getting all the eraser's particles in the keyboard of my laptop in the process), but for definitive pictures I need a surface. That meant tidying up the desk and cleaning it because it was filthy.

Also did a tiny bit of adulting.

Rolling in late because I was away from Dreamwidth for a week owing to family vacation, but heck yeah, let's get shit done. My goals break down into three categories: Writing, Media, and Tarot.

Writing
* Write at least 100 words (or edit for at least 20 minutes) on 15 days
* Draft 6 chapters of my current major project, Wings

Media
* Read six books
* Clear two video games off my backlog (this can mean either see end credits roll, or decide I won't continue)

Tarot
* Make notes in my Tarot journal for the first eleven cards of the Major Arcana.
