August 2 check-in

1. Posted a translation. Turned yesterday’s literal prose into a verse draft, and turned a side-project poem into literal prose liberally decorated with ❔❔s.

2. First task: track down unread commentaries on the websites I currently use regularly, saving all links for later reading. This took a lot longer than I initially figured. Ugh. I’m horrible at estimations. But: ✅

(For visibility, the stretch project is turning this post into an actual book. Back when I did those, I was relying on other English translators for guidance, but now I’m better enough at sifting through Chinese commentaries that I rarely look at English unless I’m completely baffled or it’s a scholarly article with actually useful insights. One reason I’ve been dragging my feet on this, I recently realized, is that I really aren’t* confident in my interpretations. Thus double-checking my work.)

3. Only 5 minutes of plinky. Life happened. 😔

* That really should be amn’t, shouldn’t it. But even though it’s “I” and indicative, aren’t sounds right when that “really” is there. TL,DR: English so weird.

It was only due to stubborness and not wanting to face this update with nothing good to report that I managed to draw a little bit yesterday and work on the sketch for the second pic. It still sucks because it's an embrace and, man, drawing two bodies interacting in space (like, closely, in contact) is hard as fuck, but I'm getting there. I might want to make some studies instead of trying blindly things and having to erase them when they won't work.

But, well, the important thing is that I managed to draw.

Didn't go out at all, so no exercise.

BG:

I tidied up a bit and even threw away some shit.

I greased a bike's chain, which was the only thing it needed done, so that bike is ready until I figure out how to fix the third gear, which is inside the hub, a system I'm not familiar with.

I played the guitar.

Persevering.

People make plans, god laughs: yesterday and today blew up in my face in a big shitty way. But I had three hours left of today to do some art for yesterday and today. More continuous/line drawings, Yohji and Schuldig. (These look like .5 seconds each, but it was over an hour to get to these. Art, what ya gonna do.)

Mid-Week Check In (Week 1)

 Had a really productive night in the studio tonight!

I prepped 6 pieces of silver for texturing by annealing them - annealing is heating the metal with a torch until it reaches a dull cherry red color, then you dunk it in cold water. This softens the metal and helps it take a better impression. 

Here are my little work trays and the steel texture plates:



Squishing them in Freddie, my 20-ton hydraulic press:

Lots of squishing later, I have all the silver textured. I cut 3 pieces of fine silver and 3 pieces of sterling, and textured a set of each. 



Next will be sawing out all the earring shapes!
