Looks like my last check-in was the 8th (Monday).

The 9th, I was really sick with a cold and didn't manage much of anything at except kind of staring at the wall. I did manage to more or less kick the cold to the curb.

The 10th, I have no idea what I did. Possibly beta reading? Figuring out Yuletide related stuff?

The 11th, I got a last minute phone call asking if I could come in several months early for a neurology appointment I'd been waiting for. That appointment, combined with getting to my daughter's school for parent-teacher conferences, ate the whole day.

The 12th, my husband started a nasty cough from the cold we'd both caught from our daughter. I had tried a new medication the night before and was kind of horrifically groggy. I'll be trying the medication again, at least once more. I may have had a slight allergic reaction to it, but it might also simply have been my body being weird or leftovers from my cold.

The 13th, I made a lot of throat coat tea and made sure my husband had food. He wasn't really able to do much but sit and cough. I think there was more beta reading.

The 14th, we did the grocery shopping (normally my husband's job, but he wasn't up to doing it alone) and the library run. That kind of did us all in. I did more beta reading.

Yesterday, my daughter's school had an evening fundraiser. My attempts to get out there kept running into delays as I missed bus connections. I got three loads of laundry done, though, and changed our sheets.

Somewhere in there, I wrote 177 words of my day 7 prompt (it's far from done) and came up with names for my day 5 prompt. I also wrote 814 words of something completely unrelated to any of my prompts, and I signed up for Yuletide.

I utterly dropped the ball on another beta read I'd promised to do. I feel bad about that and need to talk to the author. They found someone else, but I should have been more organized.

Provisional trim size set; poured content into a CreateSpace-compatible template and started tweaking page formatting (margins, headers, footers, page numbers, and other jazz).

Blargh the first: I'm finally owning up that I made a bad decision when I first created the Word file for submitting to publishers,* and admitting I need to go through the whole thing and swap the columns of 342 tables. This ... is going to be a lot of work, if I can't figure out how to marco it. Heck, a macro that actually works will be a lot of work. (I do not like Word's macroing.)

Blargh the second: Sifting through two dozen potential interior art revealed I don't have enough autumn pix. Winter out the wazoo, because ink-brush masters love the monochrome snow, but nothing in the falling-leaves line. Regardless, settled on 6 + 1 spare interior illustrations, all from the same book/artist, which includes autumnal images of bamboo + moon and a squirrel + nuts. So, yeah, okay, squirrels aren't mentioned in the poems, but I'm going with it as Good Enough.

Since setbacks have me feeling down, an example winter poem in which the grasses have withered oh woes me )

Goals for 16 Oct: Swap all the columns, by macro if can, else by manual. Stretch goals: Decide on final base fonts/sizes, finish fixing up headers/footers/pagination. (Can't do covers without final fonts.)

* I work in plain text, generally, and first compiled the individual poems into HTML > ePub, and only converted to Word as an afterthought.

First pass through the tagset resulted in (I kid you not) more than 25 items in which I had at least *some* serious interest, although that may result in nothing more serious than "make sure you remember someone wanted this in case you have time to write treats."

I realized also that most of my interest was in writing for others. I've had such mixed results with my requests lately.

I may make the maximum number of requests. You can only request 0-4 characters in each, which is probably just as well.

I need to limit my offers to something I wouldn't mind re-reading between now and the beginning of December, which means nothing longer than a trilogy. I was pleased to see Gin Hale's "Rifter" series and Rosemary Kirstein's "Steerswoman" series, but they're much too long to re-read thoroughly in that amount of time, especially considering how fast I ripped through them the first time each (hmm, read both series on vacation too: different vacations, of course).
