My plans for the month

1. Post a new translation of a Chinese poem to lnhammer at least every other day three times a week.

2. Stretch goal: Get a collection of Chinese translations to the point I can start production tasks by the end of the month. ETA based on more realistic expectations: Review/revise a poem a day of Wangchuan Collection, to make them ready for publication.

3. Practice ukulele for at least 20 preferably 30 minutes six days a week.


Commentary: ① I'd make it a poem a day, but I'm working on poems with eight seven-character lines right now and 56 characters of Classical Chinese can take a while to digest, especially when written by Du Fu. Every other day is a more sustainable pace. ② As for the collection, I've got the draft completed including notes and a basic layout, but the translations are all from over two years ago and I really need to double-check my work, both my basic understanding and against commentaries I've stumbled across since. Depending on what I find (and how much donwanna I have to struggle through 😝). ③ >plink< >plinkity plink<

This was kind of rushed, so no warming up. You're of course welcome to join the party late when you have decided what you want to work on. No need to feel pressured or to hold back on account of fear of judgement or not being able to complete the challenge or whatever. Just do what you can. Here, that's enough.

My plans for the month

Okay, so first, my speficic goals:

I need to finish at least three images this month. Hopefully more, but three are my fucking priority; two of them are fandom and one is a commission. My priorities are skewed, so I'll work first on the fanworks and see if I can create the habit that helps me to beat my anxiety and tackle the fucking commission.

Also, finish the stupid online course about Design Thinking I'm enrolled in. It's more work than you would think. Urgh.


Generic goals:

Do something creative EVERYFUCKINGDAY. Either drawing or writing. Passively thinking about it, looking up references or reflecting on the nature of art DOESN'T COUNT THIS TIME.  I need to produce shit. No matter the quality.

Exercise my body. Ideally swimming, but biking or walking big distances can be an option. Everything hurts and I'm not that fucking old. This has to change. Everyday would be awesome, but this is extremely time consuming and also psychologically draining for some reason, so I'm not sure I'll manage. But at least 3-5 times per week would be nice.


Bonus:

Tidy up the pigsty where I live. This is going to be hard because I can't pull more space out of thin air. But a little bit count.

Playing the guitar. I become clumsy and forget the songs if I don't play them and it's therapeutic for me to play and sing.

Fixing my bikes.

Catching up with my anal archiving habits. Since I started reading through my phone I haven't been saving the fics I read and the backlog is staggering.

Adulting. That's always a pain, but has to be done.

Life has been rocky lately and I need a good thing in my life. Hopefully committing to this community for August will be a boost.
 

I often think about this post I read a long time ago about not breaking the chain. Maybe I'll buy a big goddamn calendar and do this, maybe I need those BIG RED X'S; sometimes things online exist in a nebulous realm and it's easy for my procrastination/fear mind to sweep them under the rug. I am a desperate woman.

 

Anyway, The Shit I am Getting Done:

 

art and/or writing. I'm not going to commit to one AU, though I have my hopes. But every day I hope to work on a piece of artwork. (Ideally I post here that I did it, but honestly I may not have time to also post every day in addition to the art.) It doesn't have to be finished that day (there are not enough hours in my day): it just has to be worked on.

i cannot fully express how much inspo/reference material i have amassed over the years on this bad boy.

PROOF OF LIFE.

Life is TESTING ME on the very first day, but I knew it was a certainty. Anyway, I am a sucker for continuous line drawing, here is Schuldig, happy day 1.

Shit I want to get done

 1. Make a nice-sized batch of earrings. I have a craft show in September and another in October, and I'm a little low on earrings. I'm also trying to move away from my "vintage/upcycled" line, so I am going to make a batch of textured sterling earrings - some with faceted stones, some without, and some with transparent glass enamel. I set aside enough silver for 21 pairs. 

2. FINISH AN ACTUAL CHAPTER OF ONE OF MY GODDAMN WIPS. Especially A Newly Beating Heart, which hasn't been updated in YEARS. At least with the other ones I had the sense to not post them yet. I'm encouraged by the fact that a couple of weeks ago I actually wrote a little for ANBH - not the next chapter, of course, that would have made too much sense - but it was something and I celebrated it.

I can't do daily updates, but I will update at least once a week. I'm glad we're doing this!
