Commits for March

I just published a book and what the next project will be is still hazy, so by default the Shit That Needs Doing is learning Chinese -- which, to be honest, I've been slacking on of late. Ultimate goal is tourist-level facility by summer. To that end, my commit is do either three (every weekday) or two (every weekend) of the following:

• Complete a lesson or a review in both Duolingo and Hello Chinese.


• Flash card session (at least 50 cards) in Pleco.
  • ETA: Acceptable substitution: review or new chapter of the hanzi memorization book (title is in other room, to be edited in when I get a chance).


• Translate poetry, which can be either:
  • Get 4-8 lines of a Tang poem into literal prose sense, or
  • Get 4-8 lines of literal prose into English poetry.
  (If I can take it start to polish, hey great, but that's not likely for knotty ones [:side-eyes Du Fu and Li Shangyin:] so the commit is take it halfway.)


• Graded reading practice (could be in Du Chinese, Pleco, or paper book).
  • ETA: Also acceptable: reading a commentary on a Chinese poem.


• Read a chunk of grammar/idioms, either Mandarin or Classical.

The more the better, but that's the minimum.

Doing things - anything

So. This is going to be a much lighter month than before for me. My ambition has gone from writing/posting every day in March to writing/posting at least once. (For those of you who don't know, my mother died completely unexpectedly last week. I am quite honestly still in shock).

I would appreciate new prompts, especially for things like my Saiyuki android AU, my Weiss Kreuz Space Opera AU and 1920s Artists AU, as well as Good Omens (book and/or TV - though I'm leaning more to the archangels in the TV series. I do see them as different universes). Written or picture prompts are both great! ETA: I do hope you will forgive me if I can't write all of them.

Marching into March

Holy cats, it's almost March already.

Practical things:

• Clean all the oogy grime off my kitchen cabinets
• Take down the drop ceiling in said kitchen to get ready for a soffit/lighting project
• Paint the woodwork in my bathroom

Artistic things:

• Sew at least one of the outfits I have all cut out and waiting for me
• Start taking pictures of the jewelry that's not in my Etsy store and GET THEM IN MY ETSY STORE
• Get my kiln fixed so that I can play with melting glass
• WRITE SOMETHING, GODDAMMIT
